Today, Kyle Terada sent me a screenshot of the landing page of AP images. I feel so honored that my image from over two weeks ago is still making the AP Newsroom landing page. But even more so, Kyle’s gesture to send this along, makes me feel so supported by imagn and the bay area sports photography community!

As you may know, Kyle is on staff with imagn. He is both a photographer and the assignment editor for bay area sports. When I was first offered to cover for Getty - I reached out to him to make sure it was on the up-and-up and I wasn’t creating any bad feelings, or putting him in a bind, if I covered Bay FC games for getty. And now I am freelancing for both getty and AP and still imagn. (I’m not exactly making good on my attempt to work less 🙈)

As Kyle is effectively my boss at imagn, I feel so supported that he’s noticing my work elsewhere and sharing with me proudly.

When I came into the industry, there was the Sports Illustrated “lead off” images. If you made the first few pages of the magazine, that meant the editors thought you had made the best images that week. It was a huge honor! (And excitedly the first time I was published in SI was a leadoff photo.) Being a leadoff on AP’s site, feels like the digital version of that. But perhaps better because I’m lingering beyond a week, which in the digital world is UNHEARD OF!

I’m feeling so grateful for the bay area sports photography community! It’s still a bit odd and somewhat complicated to be working for multiple wire agencies, when I’ve spent over a decade with one agency, more on that another time!
