One of my favorite things about photography is that it connects me to all kinds of different people. Whether that’s the people I photograph, work for, or work alongside. In this case, Nathan Phillips, owner of Blue Note Photography.

Nathan Phillips is a fellow Berkeley photographer. When KLC ƒotos first got the Cal Athletics contract, Nathan was one of my go-to photographers for media days. He had worked for the previous contract holder and KLC ƒotos had hired him for other events.

As his career evolved into school photography, he became to busy during the fall season to work with KLC ƒotos, but we have stayed friends and will catch each other for lunch or randomly around town since we both enjoy a good beer garden outing. 🍻

Come school picture day, he’s often hiring from a shared pool of KLC ƒotos/Blue Note photographers. It’s so fun that my kids end up knowing the photographer that takes their pictures. I love that we can feel “small town” in an otherwise very populated metro area. And I also love that Nathan generously sends me the digitals (including outtakes) each year.
