Tigers defeat Athletics 6-0 ALCS Game 5

Headed back to O.co Coliseum for game 5 of the American League Division Series between the Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers.

Tied 2-2 going into the tonight, this was a winner take all situation.

A's put Jarrod Parker out first.

And Tigers put their best, Justin Verlander on the mound.

In the third inning, Omar Infante was able to advance to second base on a wild pitch.

Scored on Austin Jacksons double.

And the Jackson was able to score on another wild pitch with Miguel Cabrera at bat.

Still Parker stayed strong in the game up until the 7th inning with runners on first and third base.

Ryan Cook came in to replace him and it was all downhill from there.

Jackson's single allowed Jhonny Peralta to score.

Quintin Berry earned a walk and bases were loaded with Miguel Cabrera at bat.

Worried Cabrera might pull a Buster Posey and hit a grand slam, but he didn't even get a chance as he was hit by the pitch and a run was walked in by Omar Infante.

Cook was immediately pulled and replaced with Jeremy Blevins, in the unfortunate situation of bases still loaded.

Prince Fielder hit a single allowing Jackson to score.

Then a fielding error allowed Berry to score.

And out at home against Cabrera added just the second out.

And a fly out to Coco Crisp finally ended the inning as Fielder and Young returned to the dugout all smiles.

A's would get two hits in the 8th but nothing more as Verlander continued to pitch.

End of the eighth a little fist pump by Verlander made me think it might be his last inning and a closer would come out.

But manager Jim Leyland kept him in as he pitched a complete game with 122 pitches to defeat the A's 6-0 and win the ALCS.

Since I hadn't gone into the locker room after Wednesday's clincher, this was my first time following a team into the clubhouse for a champagne celebration.

I was prepared with rain gear for my camera body and MY body. And purposely didn't wear any kind of eye makeup because I knew a lot of this would be going on.

Followed by this

Still, I got drenched with champagne!! Players were pouring champagne everywhere.

Even on themselves.

Verlander came in later and what a greeting he received!

Then it was his turn to pour.

Despite the loss, what an awesome run the A's had, and hey, baseball isn't over for me just yet as the Giants defeated the Reds and will be back at AT&T for the National League Championship!
