Recruit sessions are all about the experience and deliverables.

Deliver the Final Product

While a media day is designed for creating content that the graphics team can easily stamp out, the images delivered to a recruit, you want to be ready as is. While I am a big proponent of "get it right in camera" the trouble is having a 9ft wide background and trying to incorporate more horizontal poses. Also with recruit sessions, it's nice to have a gentle edit for skin to make sure the final product is as flattering as possible.

Deliver ASAP

While a media day, the request is typically within a week, with maybe some select players needed more urgently for a graphic, you want to deliver recruit images as soon as possible so that the photo session isn't just part of the recruit visit experience, but receiving the photos is also part of the experience.

I lean on Evoto because I find it is the best tool for tethering but also because it can quickly turn this image:

Ava BanksJune 24, 2026; Berkeley, California, USA; Women’s Gymnastics: California Golden Bears Recruit; Ava Banks (Photo credit: Kelley L Cox/KLC ƒotos) What was extra fun about working tethered and with Evoto is that they were able to get a little laugh seeing how it first propped up in the frame, and then I reassured them "don't worry, it will edit that out" and then poof, it converted to this on the screen in front of their eyes!

And because everything was already transferred to my MacBookPro, that also meant I never had to ingest a card (of course I did later for backup) and I basically just culled (within Evoto) exported, and uploaded to Cal's GalleryID account, and sent the link to women's gymnastics staff to share with Ava before I left the room.

Evoto is an AI tool and I know there are complicated feelings around the use of AI, but I'm just trying to utilize tools that offer the best service and product to my clients. This isn't about replacing a retoucher, I have never previously hired one, and there isn't time to send it out.
