*Bye Bye Beyonce
Welp, I am finally taking my own advice and no longer including this Beyonce photo in my portfolio. Before the BeyHive comes after me, this is no disrespect to Queen Bee. I included this image in my portfolio as a visual signal that I have covered the Super Bowl. But it does not belong in a portfolio. The lighting is not dynamic - sure there is nice stage lighting on her face, but it's not really interesting lighting The moment is not that interesting - it's not showcasing peak action or a great portrait or some key moment that impresses anyone I'm not trying to be a music photographer - while I've covered a share of concerts at both large and more intimate venues, I'm not looking to make concert photography part of my niche. It's dated - this Super Bowl was seven years ago. Some portfolio images belong in your portfolio forever, but as you make more images that are portfolio-worthy, it's time to move on from some others.
