The canon 70-200mm was my go-to lens when I used the canon DSLR system. Between the 24-105mm f/2.8 and 100-300 f/2.8, this lens can feel someone redundant. But if you are looking to bring one lens for basketball, this is the goldilocks of focal length.

I never used the original canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8. My understanding is that while it packed away quite nicely, the barrel zoom was not well reviewed by professional photographers.
