Headed down to Santa Clara for the matchup between the San Jose Earthquakes and D.C. United.

D.C. United's Dwayne De Rosario scored an early goal and I was pretty bummed they celebrated the other way
Considering last time they played the Quakes, I was able to get this shot

July 30, 2011 D.C. United a Earthquakes
Quakes answered with a goal of their own, and another, and another.

Though I was thinking "woohoo" for the Quakes, I was worried it would lead to a lackluster second half when Quakes would be scoring on the side I was shooting from.
But in a physical game, the Quakes weren't nearly done attacking.
Chris Wondolowski put another one in the back of the net, giving him 10 goals on the season, leading the race for the golden boot.

Then Steven Lenhart, scored and ran through the goal to celebrate....
started coming towards the bench....
and as I switched from my 300mm to my 70-200mm, he took a beautiful flying dive... which I totally missed because I was switching lenses... Gah wish I had the much hyped Canon 200-400mm which has yet to be released!
To see what I missed, check out the great shot that CenterLineSoccer photographer Joe Nuxoll captured, sitting right next to me, third to last in the gallery: http://www.centerlinesoccer.com/photos-quakes-vs-dc-united/
But hey, you can't get em all! Still a lot of fun images and a great game as the Earthquakes defeated D.C. United 5-3.
