My Dad's Last MD80 Trip

April 26, 2012  •  6 Comments

Since I was headed to Sacramento for the Kings game, decided to arrive a little early to meet my mom and try to catch my dad flying out of Sacramento for his last flight on the MD80 from Sacramento to Dallas (well technically had one more because he had to fly back from Dallas too)

We were able to catch him and co-pilot Mike on their way to terminal.

Then we staked out on the roof of the daily parking garage like snipers, my mom and I were able to watch him do the walk around and wave with the crew and we got a little wave =)

Then we headed over to my favorite place at any airport, the park and call, to try and catch him taking off.

My dad has been flying the Super 80 for over 20 years and is now moving on to the Boeing 777!

We are all so excited and proud of "Flyboy" as my grandpa used to call him when my parents were first dating.

I always wanted to be a pilot as a kid..these photos reminded me why. :)

Thanks Patti!

I know it's a little bittersweet for the SFO pilot base to be closing and taking the last trips with the friends he's made! But boys will be boys and he's excited for the bigger toy/plane! Hopefully the crews on 777 are as great as you, but that would be asking a lot!

Kelley on the Telley will probably have to be MIA while he's in training... but I'm sure the game will start up again when he gets back, he's so good at finding me! Haha!

Kelley,

I've been flying in the back seat of your Dad's airplanes as a Flight Attendant for many years and can honestly say he is one of the most exceptional pilots in the air. He has the perfect personality and character to be a pilot. His sense of humor always keeps 'work' fun, yet he can take charge and lead us in the worst of times if need be.

I'm proud of your Dad and honored to call him my friend. (I've met your adorable Ma too when we sat next to them at the CAL games.) Anyway, I've enjoyed seeing your progress as a fantastic photographer and look forward to continue watching your talent!! "Kelley on the Telley" is one of the funnest things on FB!!

Thanks Chuck and Maylou! Miss the days of actually being able to follow him through the terminal but glad we were able to capture this much. I'm sure the Triple-7 will treat him well, flying the big boy plane now ;-)

And thanks Chuck for the tips on my website, PL3 appreciates it very much =)

These are fun pictures Kelley! It was great you and your mom were out there for the historic flight - I know it meant a lot to your dad. Now, on to the Triple-7!
